Upgrading Your Guardians

Leveling and ranking up your Guardians will directly affect their attributes, as well as which talents they may equip. You may rank up your Guardian, which provides an additional pool of levels to obtain stronger attributes.

Increasing a Guardian’s Rarity

To increase a Guardian’s star level, also known as rarity, you will need Guardian shards. Each Guardian requires its own Guardian-specific shards, and you can only earn Guardian shards by receiving a duplicate Guardian. So, for example, to increase a 3-star Elsa to a 4-star Elsa, you would need a total of 350 shards that you can only get from earning Elsa as a duplicate. Guardians at different star levels provide different amounts of Guardian shards, so you may need more or less duplicate Guardians to increase a Guardian’s star level.

Different amounts of Guardian shards are needed at each level. To increase a Guardian from:

• 1-star to 2-star, you need 20 Guardian shards.
• 2-star to 3-star, you need 70 Guardian shards.
• 3-star to 4-star, you need 350 Guardian shards.
• 4-star to 5-star, you need 1,050 Guardian shards.

You cannot increase a Guardian’s star level once you have achieved five stars. However, to provide deeper progression for Guardians, once a Guardian has reached five stars, you can increase their astral rating each time you earn 1,500 Guardian shards. You can achieve a total of 10 levels of astral rating. For your Guardians to be as strong as possible, you will want them to have higher rarity ratings, and higher astral ratings will continue to increase your Guardians' power.

Each time you open a crystal and receive a duplicate Guardian, they will be converted into shards that will go toward increasing that Guardian’s rarity to the next star level. The conversion is as follows:

• 1-star duplicates give you 10 Guardian shards.
• 2-star duplicates give you 30 Guardian shards.
• 3-star duplicates give you 100 Guardian shards.
• 4-star duplicates give you 450 Guardian shards.
• 5-star duplicates give you 1,500 Guardian shards.

Leveling

You will be able to increase the levels of your Guardians by gaining XP from completing encounters or by using motes. There are two types of motes: universal and role-specific. Within those types, there are also three tiers of motes: minor, major, and superior.

Minor motes apply to Guardians between levels 1-20, major motes apply to those between levels 21-50, and superior motes apply to those between levels 51-100.

Universal Motes

These motes can be used on any Guardian regardless of their role.

Role Motes

These motes are split into the four roles: Melee, Ranged, Support, and Tank. They can only be used on Guardians that share their role.

To upgrade the level of your Guardian:

1. Tap on the GUARDIANS button on the home screen.
2. Select the Guardian you wish to upgrade.
3. Tap the UPGRADE button.
   • If you have the appropriate motes to proceed to the next level, the LEVEL UP button will be illuminated.
4. Use the + and - buttons to choose how many of your motes you would like to use. The number of levels your Guardian will gain will be displayed.
5. Tap the LEVEL UP button and confirm the usage of the items.

   

Note:

• XP motes are shared amongst all your Guardians, so be sure you are keeping track of how many you have available. Once you use your motes for one Guardian, you may not have enough to level up another.
• Every level will have different XP mote requirements, increasing as you level and rank up.
• Leveling your Guardians does not cost Gold.

Ranking Up Guardians

Once you reach the maximum level of your current rank, you will be able to use gems to rank up your Guardian.

What Are the Maximum Levels for Each Rank?

Rank 1: Levels 1-10

Rank 2: Levels 11-20

Rank 3: Levels 21-30

Rank 4: Levels 31-40

Rank 5: Levels 41-50

Rank 6: Levels 51-60

Ranking Up with Gems

As with motes, there are universal and role-specific versions of these gems.

Diamonds: Universal

Rubies: Melee

Topazes: Ranged

Emeralds: Support

Sapphires: Tank

To upgrade the rank of your Guardian:

1. Tap on the GUARDIANS button on the home screen.
2. Select the guardian you wish to rank up.
3. Tap the UPGRADE button.
   • This button may be illuminated to indicate that you have reached the resources needed for a level increase rather than a rank increase.
   • You must have met all of the prerequisites in the REQUIREMENTS list in order to proceed to the next rank.
4. Tap the RANK UP button.
5. On the RANK UP panel, tap the button that displays the Gold it will cost to rank up your Guardian.

To view what a Guardian needs to rank up before you have met the necessary prerequisites:

1. Tap on the GUARDIANS button on the home screen.
2. Select the Guardian you wish to rank up.
3. Tap the UPGRADE button.
   • This button may be illuminated to indicate that you have reached the resources needed for a level increase rather than a rank increase.
4. Tap the RANK UP button.
5. The RANK UP panel will display the required gems, Gold, and other requirements needed to proceed to the next rank.

   

Note:

• Gems need to be in your inventory to rank up your Guardian. If a gem is located in your stash, it will not count for the upgrade.
• As with motes, gems are shared among all of your Guardians. Be sure you are using them wisely.
• Guardians must meet the provided requirements before they may upgrade to the next rank. Ranks require a minimum star-level rarity to unlock as noted in the requirements.

Other Increases in Guardian Attributes

Guardian milestones

As you advance your Guardians, so too will your milestones progress. Milestones require that a certain condition is met with each individual Guardian, earning you one-time rewards.

Some milestones unlock permanent attribute bonuses that raise the overall strength of your Guardian.

Leveling up your talents

In addition to advancing the levels and ranks of your Guardian, leveling up the talents you equip to them will also raise their attributes.

Talents may be increased up to Level 10. Upgrading a talent is possible using Gold and books. Books can be found in crystals, earned as rewards, purchased from the store, or claimed once enough pages to form a book are collected. You may view the upgrade requirements for each individual talent by tapping its LEVEL UP button.

Once you have fulfilled the upgrade requirements, the CONFIRM button will become illuminated.

After spending the required resources, your talent will rank up, increasing the benefits of its use and sometimes the power rating that your Guardian will receive from equipping it.

Signature Abilities

Signature abilities unlock when your Guardian has a rarity of four stars. To increase the level and strength of your Guardian’s signature ability, you will need to collect signets. There are two types of signets: Guardian-specific and universal. Once you have met the required signet amounts, the signature ability's LEVEL UP button will illuminate.

Signets can be found in the Bazaar, the Alliance store, the store for different events, in crystals, and as parts of Guardian milestones. You can also earn Guardian-specific signets by pulling a 4- or 5-star Guardian from a crystal. Pulling a 3-star Guardian that gives you enough Guardian shards to increase your Guardian to a 4-star will not provide a signet. Likewise, purchasing a Guardian from the Stardust store that increases your Guardian’s rarity to four stars will also not provide a signet.

To upgrade the level of your Guardian’s signature ability:

1. Tap on the GUARDIANS button on the home screen.
2. Select the Guardian you wish to level.
3. Tap the ABILITIES button.
   • If you have the appropriate signets to proceed to the next level, you will see a pink indicator displayed on the icon for that Guardian’s signature ability.
4. Tap the icon for your Guardian’s signature ability to open the Signature Ability panel.
5. Select the type of signet you have available to use.
6. Use the + and - buttons to choose how many of your signets you would like to use. The number of levels your Guardian’s signature ability will gain will be displayed.
7. Tap the LEVEL UP button.

   Note: There will not be a confirmation for the usage of the signets. Once you have hit the LEVEL UP button, your signets will immediately be used. This action can not be undone.
