Important: You will NOT lose class cores if you recover your mastery points. Any unlocked nodes will remain unlocked after recovering the points.
You will need to collect Stony Mastery Cores, Carbonadium Mastery Cores, and class mastery cores to unlock certain skills.

Where Can I Find Them?
You can purchase a Stony Mastery Core for 135 Units and a Carbonadium Mastery Core for 550 Units in the in-game store by tapping on the MASTERY tab.
Class-specific cores (mystic, cosmic, science, skill, mutant, and tech) can be found in the store under the LOYALTY and MASTERY tabs. Class-specific cores can only be purchased one class at a time, and they will rotate out of the store once their timers end. This system is very similar to the daily class catalyst quest (which also has a rare chance at rewarding class-specific mastery cores). Make sure that you check the store every day to find the cores that you need!
