Crystal Shards
Crystal shards give players that are level 5 or higher the ability to work towards creating complete crystals. You can collect crystal shards from duplicate Champions, arena rewards, event quests, solo and alliance events, and promotions. Once enough shards are collected, they can be redeemed for their respective crystal in the CRYSTALS tab.
You will NOT be able to mix and match the shards, as they must be used to create their designated crystals.
Crystal Shards from Duplicated Champions
2-, 3-, 4-, and 5-star Champions provide useful resources such as ISO-8 and Gold that can be used to upgrade your Champions when duplicated. In addition to this, these Champions provide crystal shards that can be exchanged for their corresponding crystals once you have collected the required amount.
How Do I Get Shards?
- 2-star Champions provide 3-Star Hero Crystal Shards when duplicated.
- 3-star Champions provide 4-Star Hero Crystal Shards when duplicated.
- 4-star Champions provide 5-Star Hero Crystal Shards when duplicated.
- 5-star Champions provide 6-Star Hero Crystal Shards when duplicated.
- 6-star Hero Crystal Shards cannot be earned through duplicating 6-star Champions. You will only receive the normal Gold, ISO-8, and signature ability levels for doing so.
- Premium Hero Crystal Shards are not received from duplicating Champions.
- Keep in mind that Champions received from alliance crystals or arena crystals (Unstoppable Colossus and Punisher) will not award these shards.
- Special promotions and calendar rewards also grant crystal shards.
Why Did I Get Fewer Shards from Event Rewards?
Duplicate Champions obtained from events provide fewer crystal shards than those obtained elsewhere in the game. For example, earning a normal 3-star Champion from event rewards will provide 20 shards instead of the normal 55.
Basic Champions obtained from arenas do NOT award any crystal shards.

Nexus Crystals
Nexus Crystals have a unique mechanic. A Nexus Crystal will provide you with three random Champions from within the Crystal’s pool, allowing you to select the one you would prefer the most.
There are a large variety of Nexus Crystals within The Contest. Some will provide you with a selection of Champions of a specific star ranking, others will provide you Champions that have some unifying feature. Nexus Crystals cannot be created from Shards the same way other Crystals can be but can be earned through playing The Contest.
Sometimes, Summoners may end up selecting a Champion that they do not need or want. To get their selection reversed, Summoners can contact Kabam Support for assistance with the reversal, but make sure not to level or rank up the Champion before contacting us!

These shards and their crystals are available only for the duration of their related event.

Premium Hero Crystal
Premium Hero Crystals can be purchased for 100 Units or 2,000 Premium Hero Crystal Shards. Each Premium Hero Crystal guarantees a 2-star Champion with a chance of a 4-star Champion.
Solo Crystals
Solo crystals and Solo Crystal Shards are earned as rank and milestone rewards from solo events. The tier of crystal made from the shards depends on how many shards you are willing to invest and your campaign progress. Note that the quantity badge on the SPECIAL tab used for the various solo crystals will reflect the largest number of Solo Crystals (the 1,000 shard version) that can be created from your current quantity of Solo Crystal Shards. The crystals have a chance to grant you XP boosts, arena boosts, signature stones, awakening gems, and various catalysts (depending on the tier of the crystal).
Specialty Crystal
Specialty crystals provide an opportunity to obtain specific Champions or a group of Champions for a limited time. These crystal rewards can vary. For example, some crystals may provide only mystic Champions, while others can provide a chance at obtaining a Champion that has just been released. Be sure to read the description of the crystal in order to view the possible rewards.
Versus Crystal
Versus Crystals can be obtained by winning arena quickmatches. They offer a chance to win Gold, Units, and energy refills.
Base Champion Pool
When a new Champion is released in The Contest, they are typically only available in special featured hero crystals. After a few months of their initial introduction to the Battlerealm, they will be added to the base Champion pool. Champions in this pool can be obtained from Premium Hero Crystals as well as 3-, 4-, 5-, and 6-Star Hero Crystals. A crystal created or earned prior to the base pool being updated will still include the updated pool of Champions.
